Feel
This design was made using materials that evoke a sense of touch. Visual texture is the illusion of texture on a flat surface that appears to have a varied surface. The materials I observed were bubble wrap, a rope, and shattered glass.

CHANCE
The design was created by picking one word at random. The word that I picked served as the concept for the dynamic composition. Unconventional materials like reinforcement stickers and a black ink pad were used to complete the design.
Word - Rhythm
Shape - Circles
Design tool - Repetition

Connected
This 2D design explores the variation within the lines and how it may be used to establish a visual flow and sense of space. I experimented with thin and thick lines connected in the background but also covered with negative space in the foreground.

Edgy
In this design I explore figure/ground relationship through the use of shapes. I made sharp cut outs on black paper to form the edgy composition.

TRANSFORMATION THROUGH VALUE

Understanding value through several small cutouts of imperfectly shaped paper. The cutouts were painted using acrylic B/W paint.

wraparound

The first drawing is based on a still life that covers a lot of texture and movement. The second drawing is cut into four equal parts and arranged differently than before. The final drawing was turned into an abstraction while still maintaining the wraparound concept shown in the first two drawings.

Bite

This three-part storyboard shows the same pieces of fruit in each drawing while also illustrating the passage of time. The bite in the second drawing leads you to the final piece, where almost nothing remains.

The 13th
As some debate about slavery being a choice, I would like to argue that it was never abolished.
The 13th amendment is the reinstatement of slavery; it states neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for a crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted...
The 13th amendment didn’t make slavery unconstitutional; it created an illusion for those that believed racism and slavery were a thing of the past. The 13th amendment clearly states that if you are convicted of a crime, your punishment will be slavery. The United States currently ranks number one in the world for the number of people it has in cages. Continuing to fill most of its institutions with black and brown bodies directly doubles down on its reinstatement of slavery.
